4 months into an online relationship with a guy I haven’t met, I got a tattoo of us

The (stupid) things we do in the name of love.

We met on Facebook at the beginning of 2015. He sent me a message after reading my posts and comments in a Facebook group we were in.

He said he’d like to add me as a friend on Facebook, was that okay? It was a group for the chronically depressed and he sounded polite, so I said yes.

The conversation got off to a fantastic start. I felt connected to him pretty much right away and couldn’t get enough of the conversation.

By the third day of our exchange, the paragraphs had snowballed into daily 2 thousand words essays — thanks to a combination of seemingly endless things to talk about and a 12-hour time difference that gave us time to compose these “essays”.

We had a trick too, we used Microsoft Words. That way we got a word count, which we included at the end of each “essay”.

The letters turned into messages when we graduated to WhatsApp, and the conversation became one neverending message thread. He was the first person I talked to in the morning and the last person I talked to before I fell asleep.
