It is unfair.
In writing about the air-conditioning habits of the developing world, I see how skewed the environmental impacts are. While people in developing countries are cranking down their A/C units in the face of global warming, they’re making the climate even worse for people in the Southern parts of the earth, many of whom don’t have access to A/C but are the worst hit by global warming.
Of course, A/C isn’t the only contributor to the climate crisis, but it’s almost an exact analogy for the situation you wrote about in this post.
This is a great post, though it’s a grim picture. I always say we’re in the climate crisis together, but the truth is, some of us are hit harder than others.
I wish you and your children as well as one can be in a situation like this.
